History

Founded in 1755, Zion Church of the City of Baltimore is the mother church of Lutheranism in the Baltimore metro region. Over the years it has evolved into much more than just “the German Church in Baltimore.”

Zion has proven a steady presence to Lutherans in Maryland and to people of all backgrounds in the city, with its worship and music traditions, a dynamic educational program, and a flair for hospitality.

Most of the information in this section comes from the church’s own published history, Zion in Baltimore 1755-1953.
