THANKS FROM THE LUTHER EXHIBIT COMMITTEE

In late November visitors  (approximately 1000!) came through Zion's doors and up the stairs to the Adlersaal to explore the traveling exhibit from Wittenberg, Germany.  Here they were immersed into the world and culture of Martin Luther, The Reformer.  Many were guided through this world by our own Luther scholar, the Rev. Dr. Eric W. Gritsch.  The events of the week included various lectures by known scholars, special worship services, and musical performances.

Many members and friends of Zion worked long hours to make this a successful experience for all who visited.  People utilized their muscles, skills in organization, culinary arts, clerical and telephone skills, flower arranging, historical knowledge, financial assistance, and sewing skills, smiling faces and willing hands and hearts.

The ladies of Zion lived up to their reputation by providing delicious food, beautifully presented in an historic setting.  Many people were first time visitors to Zion, and we can be certain that they found a welcoming and memorable reception.

Refreshments after the Exhibit

This unique exhibit (www.the-reformer.de) displayed facsimiles of almost 200 objects from collections illustrating Luther’s life and work. It was a touring exhibition sponsored by the Luther Center in Wittenberg, Germany, and by the government of the German state of Saxony-Anhalt. Baltimore was chosen to be one of just 14 cities in the United States and Canada to host this exhibit.  While here, LUTHER – THE REFORMER was housed in the historic Adlersaal (Eagle’s Hall) of Zion Church of the City of Baltimore. The Walters Art Museum, the Milton S. Eisenhower Library of the Johns Hopkins University, the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Washington, D.C., the Zion Forum for German Culture, and area German societies cooperated with Zion Church in this unique project.
